Dar Es Salaam Port Expansion Unlocks Growth and Connectivity Across Africa
Khatib & Alami (K&A) is supporting Tanzania Port Authority (TPA) to deliver world-class maritime logistics to help drive growth and prosperity across Eastern Central and Southern Africa.
Dar Es Salaam New Container Terminal will handle 2.5 million TEUs per year, a rise from 1.5 million TEUs per year previously, boosting maritime economic activities and placing Dar es Salaam as a hub for multi-model transportation for neighboring land-locked countries. Following K&A’s participation at the three-day workshop to develop the conceptual design for the project, Chadi Sabra, Infrastructure Senior Manager, said of the ongoing Terminal Development and Expansion of the Dar es Salaam Port in Tanzania: “We’re pleased to be providing our expertise in a number of ways to the construction of a container terminal between berths 12 and 15, which will promote container traffic in Dar es Salaam and establish the course for the nation’s port industry.”
Our experts, in partnership with Triton Consultants Cyprus LTD, are also designing new ferry and cargo terminals to cater to the rising demand for goods and passengers traveling between the mainland and the islands. The project also includes the development of a new cruise ship terminal to enhance the tourism sector in Dar es Salaam, all while also considering TPA’s requirements and adopting sustainable, innovative, and green approaches, which are at the core of our design and practices.
Gloria Mushi, K&A Tanzania Country Manager, said: “We believe Dar es Salaam has tremendous potential for cruise ship liners to draw tourists visiting the city’s attractions and islands. The port’s strategic position and modern infrastructure will help improve the country’s tourism operations and boost economic growth and sustainable development.”
