Al Soudah Tourism Development: Mountain Destination at Saudi Arabia’s Highest Elevation
The Al Soudah project is a tourism-focused development in Saudi Arabia’s mountainous region, covering a 627 km² site area. The initiative aims to create a unique mountain destination featuring hotels, retail spaces, second home units, and leisure attractions at the country’s highest elevation point. K&A has been appointed by Soudah Development Company (SD) as the Lead Infrastructure Consultant.
Addressing Complex Mountainous Conditions
The project site presents significant engineering and planning challenges due to steep slopes and elevation differences ranging from 820m to 3,025m above sea level. The team also needed to implement a phased land-use strategy to minimize disruption to existing operations during construction.
Master Planning and Infrastructure Approach
K&A’s consultancy is structured in three stages to ensure a sustainable and efficient development:
- Stage 1 – Master Plan and Design Development: Develops master planning strategies and recommendations for the full build-out of Al Soudah by 2030.
- Stage 2 – Infrastructure Master Plan and Design Development: Reviews and enhances the master plan, ensuring compliance with professional standards, local regulations, and the client’s vision.
- Stage 3 – Procurement Services: Supports the preparation and issuance of procurement packages for Phase 1 of construction.
Our team’s scope of work includes transport planning, civil and geotechnical engineering, sustainability consultancy, water and waste management, highways and infrastructure design, tender and contract documents, telecommunications, and environmental planning.
Results
Al Soudah will become a signature mountain destination, emphasizing adventure, wellness, sports, culture, and heritage. The phased land-use plan minimizes disruption to ongoing operations, and K&A’s support through procurement services ensures the project progresses efficiently from the initial phase.
