Gulf of Aqaba Surveys: Geotechnical Insight for Coastal Development
The Gulf of Aqaba Comprehensive Surveys form part of Saudi Arabia’s development vision for the Red Sea region. Commissioned by NEOM, the program provided essential data for planning infrastructure in one of the Kingdom’s most environmentally sensitive and strategically important areas.
K&A’s scope included geotechnical and geophysical investigations, seismic hazard assessments, natural risk evaluations, geological surveys, and topographical and drone surveys, supported by met-ocean studies and bathymetric mapping.
Meeting the Demands of a Complex Environment
The survey program required delivery on a fast-track basis while navigating difficult weather conditions, sensitive ecosystems, and a challenging permitting process. Coastal and offshore investigations had to account for seismic risks and natural hazards while protecting coral reefs, groundwater, and marine habitats.
Geotechnical Solutions and Risk Assessments
K&A applied advanced tools and methods to capture reliable subsurface and coastal data. Satellite Derived Bathymetry was used to map offshore areas with precision, reducing time and environmental disturbance. Geotechnical investigations and geo-hazard assessments identified risks linked to soil stability, seismic activity, and natural processes. Updated seismic maps and subsurface data provided a clear picture of the region’s ground conditions, strengthening the foundation for risk-aware planning and design.
Results: A Foundation for Informed Development
The Gulf of Aqaba geotechnical surveys delivered a comprehensive knowledge base that supports future infrastructure while safeguarding the environment. The findings enable decision-makers to plan resilient coastal projects with confidence, grounded in a detailed understanding of subsurface conditions and natural risks.
