NEOM Coastal Road: Infrastructure in Harmony with Nature

The NEOM Coastal Road Improvement project reflects Saudi Arabia’s vision for sustainable, world-class infrastructure. Running along the Red Sea coast, the project enhances safety and mobility while protecting sensitive ecosystems.

NEOM commissioned K&A to deliver the full detailed design. Our challenge was to widen and upgrade the road without disturbing the region’s fragile environment or its mountainous terrain.

Designing for Sustainability and Safety

The project team had to follow strict environmental and land shape rules, which meant they couldn’t reclaim land from the sea or dig in rocky mountain areas. They carefully balanced making the roads easier to use with protecting the environment.

K&A designed the road expansion to cause as little damage as possible to fauna and flora. We used engineering methods that fit with the existing land and added signs and speed bumps to make the roads safer for drivers.

Tackling Complex Topography

Working within a harsh mountainous landscape required innovative solutions. Temporary construction roads were carefully planned to avoid excavation in rock areas, reducing environmental impact. Every design choice considered NEOM’s commitment to sustainability, ensuring that the project aligned with both engineering and ecological priorities.

A Safer Road, A Preserved Landscape

The NEOM Coastal Road Improvement project delivered a modernized, safer route along the Red Sea while maintaining ecological integrity. The project demonstrates that infrastructure development and environmental stewardship can advance together.

By combining safety enhancements with sustainable design, K&A supported NEOM’s ambition to create infrastructure that not only serves people but also protects the natural beauty of the region.
