New College of Law: Qatar University

The New College of Law Qatar University fulfills the client’s ambition to improve the education system as a premier educational institution in the region.  As the design and supervision consultant, K&A delivered a student-centered facility that promotes lifelong learning, teaching, and community partnerships. The college, which hosts 2,000 students and 200 academic and administrative staff, is a sustainable development model built to 4-star GSAS standards.

Advancing Education with a Modern Functional Design

The NCL is a 50,025 m² sectional building composed of three primary blocks, interconnected via two lateral skylit spines that introduce natural daylight into interior spaces. These spines symmetrically link the blocks to the public vertical circulation cores, forming a linear campus street that organizes the majority of the campus programmatic elements. Within these landscaped spines, key amenities—including coffee shops, reading lounges, and convenience stores—overlook green areas and water features, enhancing both user experience and social interaction.

The building features a visually striking curtain wall façade and a welcoming portico along the main pedestrian approach, incorporating trapezoidal glass panels that align with the fenestration pattern of adjacent blocks. At the narrow ends, ceremonial entrances are axially positioned and connected via passageways through the central communal block, bridging access between blocks. Multi-level columns support canopies over these entrances, conveying a sense of formal governance and hierarchy.
