Rah Falhu Huraa (Fari Islands): Sustainable Resort Development in the Maldives

Architecture | Hospitality | Maldives

Rah Falhu Huraa, also known as the Fari Islands, is a world-class mixed-use resort development located in the Maldives. The project was envisioned as a sustainable luxury destination that balances hospitality, residential living, and environmental stewardship.

K&A provided master planning, infrastructure design, environmental impact assessments, and marine engineering services, ensuring that the development respected the sensitive island ecosystem while meeting global hospitality standards.

Challenges of Island Development

The Maldives’ fragile environment and limited land availability posed unique challenges. Designing infrastructure that could serve high-end resorts without disrupting marine ecosystems required careful planning. Coastal erosion risks and climate resilience also had to be addressed in the master plan.

Integrated and Sustainable Solutions

K&A created a master plan that emphasized low-impact development, with resorts and residences integrated into the natural landscape. Infrastructure systems for water, wastewater, and energy were designed to minimize ecological impact. Coastal protection measures and marine engineering solutions safeguarded the islands from erosion and climate risks.

A Model for Sustainable Luxury

The Rah Falhu Huraa development established the Fari Islands as a benchmark for sustainable luxury tourism. The project combined high-end hospitality with environmental responsibility, offering a blueprint for future island developments in the Maldives and beyond.
