RIYADH
METRO

KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA

In 2012, Riyadh’s population was 5.7 million. By 2030,
it is expected to increase to eight million. This means
better transportation is needed to alleviate traffic and
help the growing number of people move around.
The Riyadh Metro Project will be the backbone of the city's
public transport system. The new metro system will fulfill
the demands of the rising population as well as reduce
congestion on the roads and improve air quality. Launched
by the High Commission for the Development of ArRiyadh
(represented by the ArRiyadh Development Authority),
the project entails six metro lines 176 kilometers (109 mi)
integrated with an 85 kilometer (53 mi) three-line bus rapid
transit (BRT) network. The metro project is owned and
operated by the Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA)
and will create about 15,000 jobs in Saudi Arabia.
