This Light Rail Transit (LRT)
                                                                       will be providing a commuter
                                                                       line between Metro Line 3’s end
                                                                       (Adly Mansour in Salam City),
                                                                       Robaikey city, the industrial area
                                                                       in 10  of Ramadan, and Barlaman
                                                                           th
                                                                       station in the New Administrative
                                                                       Capital. The project includes 11
                                                                       stations and one depot. The LRT
                                                                       is expected to transport 340,000
                                                                       passengers per day.
                                                                       The construction cost will total
                                                                       $1.25 billion, including $739
                                                                       million, funded by China Exim
                                                                       Bank. The project is expected to
                                                                       be completed and operated by
                                                                       July 2019.
                                                                       As one of Egypt’s most complex
                                                                       rail projects, Cairo LRT presents
                                                                       many challenges to K&A and the
                                                                       Chinese JV (AVIC and Crec): the
                                                                       introduction of the first 25 KV
                                                                       electrification systems in Egypt; a
                                                                       signaling system based on CBTC
                                                                       (converted to ETCS L2); the
                                                                       adoption of new technologies;
                                                                       and the necessity of onboarding
                                                                       specialized staff. With a pool
                                                                       of capabilities, and clever
                                                                       management of the project,
                                                                       K&A is fully geared to deliver
                                                                       this world-class project despite
                                                                       anticipated risks of financing
                                                                       caused by the investment type,
                                                                       the operation of the line shifting
                                                                       to a new computerized type,
                                                                       and the constructability issues
                                                                       caused by heavy traffic density in
                                                                       some areas.
